Year 3 - Frank and Pankhurst

                     

In Year 3, the intent is to provide a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that is both accessible and challenging for all pupils. We will build on the foundations that pupils have from Key Stage One and ensure that they engage in the learning they experience in their first year of Key Stage two. Year 3 is a unique opportunity for children to develop their self-learning and the environment will give the children a chance to really explore their learning across the curriculum in an inclusive, nurturing and rewarding way.

Using bespoke planning, the Year 3 curriculum has been carefully designed in line with the National Curriculum to build on knowledge and skills pupils have already acquired to ensure progression and depth of understanding. Literacy and numeracy skills will be prioritised to ensure children are able to access all areas of the curriculum and embed cross curricular experiences at regular opportunities. Planning of lessons will also include a variety of learning experiences that will meet the needs of all learners, including those of pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). Regular feedback will provide children the opportunity to improve and be involved in their own learning experience.

Pupil’s progress will be monitored and the use a range of assessment methods to track progress, identify areas for development and provide targeted support for individual pupils. Regular parent meetings will ensure pupil progress will be accessible and reviewed at various stages of Year 3. We hope to ensure parents and carers are involved in the learning journey and help contribute to a successful year. Each pupil’s strengths are valued and nurtured and we aim that every student has the chance to shine both in and out of the classroom.

The aim is also to expose Year 3 pupils to a wide range of experiences, including visits, visitors, and opportunities to explore different cultures and traditions as well as ensuring key texts reflect the backgrounds of our pupils. Pupils will be encouraged to ask questions, make connections, and develop a broader understanding of the world around them. Ensuring an inclusive environment for children to support, encourage and love each other in all of our learning experiences. Within Year 3 classroom we will have opportunities for collective worship as well as our daily prayers. We will also encourage children to reflect independently and be given the chance to discuss their spiritual thoughts and feelings together as a class. As a school, we prioritise the wellbeing of pupils, providing a supportive and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, respected, and able to thrive. Encouraging collaborative learning, hands-on experiences and a focus on positive relationships, we aim to cultivate a lifelong love of learning and prepare our pupils for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
