Year 5 - Curie and Hawking

At our school, Year 5 is designed to be an enriching and transformative year where pupils are encouraged to articulate themselves confidently in both speech and writing. We are committed to fostering a holistic view of learning, helping pupils see the interconnectedness of all subjects and sparking a sense of curiosity that drives their educational journey.

We place great value on Religious Education as an essential part of our curriculum, where we instill Catholic values that guide pupils in their moral and spiritual development. Through exploring the teachings of the Catholic faith, we encourage pupils to embody values such as compassion, respect, and integrity in their daily lives. Our aim is to foster a sense of community, empathy, and social responsibility, helping pupils grow into considerate and principled individuals who contribute positively to society.

Building on prior learning, we strive to deepen pupils' love of reading, which in turn supports their writing skills. Our aim is for pupils to not only read widely but also to develop a strong understanding of the books they encounter, including themes and character development. In mathematics, we focus on developing fluency and accuracy as well as conceptual understanding, equipping pupils with the skills to approach problems flexibly and confidently.

Throughout Year 5, we encourage pupils to gain a greater understanding of themselves as learners, taking responsibility for their learning and actions. We support them in becoming more organised with their homework and independent study, preparing them for the next stage of their school life.

We are committed to inclusivity and value the unique talents and abilities of each pupil. We provide support to ensure that all students can access class work, adapting our teaching methods to meet their individual needs. Our goal is for every pupil to feel valued, connected, and an integral part of both the class and the wider school community.

While we place a strong emphasis on English and maths, we are dedicated to providing a broad and balanced curriculum that equips pupils with a wide body of knowledge. Our aim is to work with pupils to develop their sense of responsibility, resourcefulness, resilience, and reflectiveness, preparing them to become successful and well-rounded members of society
